In case you’re interested, the NEW IndyCar.com is coming together swimmingly. The most striking feature, of course, is that this new version isn’t built out of Korean chicken wire & chaos. (NOW WE’RE ON THE TROLLEY!!) Of course, I’ve only seen the new Race Control section of the site and nothing else – so maybe I shouldn’t speak so glowingly of it all just yet. Lest I jinx it. I’ll shut up now.
To the screengrabs we go!!!
For those NOT interested in subtle web-design changes or the like, well I’ve got something for you too. Something completely unrelated. Because you probably thought “He Hate Me” was the worst nickname in human history, right? WRONG! From Yahoo’s Today in History from yesterday:
In 1862, during the Civil War, some 14,000 Confederate soldiers surrendered at Fort Donelson, Tennessee. Union General Ulysses S. Grant’s victory earned him the nickname “Unconditional Surrender Grant.”
HAHA, what?!? That’s his nickname?!?! It’s just like “Stonewall” Jackson or “Night Train” Lane in terms of splendor & brevity, I suppose, except not at all. And better yet, it’s an even MORE mesmorizingly stupid nickname if you say it in an emotionless robot voice, all droll and serious: UN-CON-DISH-ON-AL SURR-END-ER GRANT. I’ve been doing for the last half hour or so. Try it. I think you’ll find it most delightful.
I think my work here is done.

Baby I missed you. I’m so glad you’re back. I hope they put your picture on the race control.

My only question, and roughly the only one that matters, does it actually continue to operate once the race starts, without needing the perfect combination of browser, OS and processor, so long as its a computer from the past 6 years?

So after we got the news you were back in business, we didn’t hear from you for two days. Did you slam down a case of MD20/20 in celebration and you’ve just awoken to find another chassis drawing unveiled? Wake up, Roy!

Wedge – I’m on a test run of it right now (using last year’s 500). In all seriousness, it’s rather spectacular.

It does look appealing, although last year the servers had trouble keeping up with demand for a simple timing chart, much less all this fancy hoop-a-joo. What kind of load testing are they doing? Race control only works if it works during race time.
Secondly, what’s the backup plan? Can we get a simple T&S chart on a different server as an alternate?

Stonewall Hobbson. I think that fits.

outtaphase,
There will be a “lo-fi” version of timing and scoring in HTML format.

I think maybe a good Mafioso name might be good for you, Roy: Flatnose, Knuckles, how ’bout “Fingers” Hobbson? sometimes they have cutsie names too: Roy “the Doves” Hobbson, Toots,———AH HA—”Sunshine” Hobbson! “cause when he leaves, it’s lights out!

indycar.com,
Thanks for clearing that up. Downtime happens, but it’s far less painful when you have a backup for the basics. I hope it’s on an alternate server, or at least mirrored elsewhere.

indycar.com….INDYCAR.COM. Hobbson, boot them off! We like to bitch about change, not for them to actually hear it and do something about it. UNLESS they can prove their not FBI. Slam a fifth of jameson, feast on a turkey leg from last year’s 500, and smack an alligator on the eye (or bitch-slap Arie like Foyt did)… then we’ll know your not hear to Patriot-Act our Hobbson.

FYI – Timing and Scoring not working during the Barbers testing.

Did I just see an XFL reference?
