Mmmmmmmm … buttery. Below are some never-before-seen views of that which ignited the IndyCar blogoverse yesterday.
Dallara #1
Dallara #2
Dallara #3
Go forth now & debate one another violently on purely subjective matters.
An IndyCar.com blog only vaguely related to IndyCar.

Am I going to have to deny knowledge of this later? Because OMG it’s like porn! *licks screen*

I can only hope the Delta Wing looks different/better. The yellow model has the Panoz DP-01 vents. I didn’t think anything Champcar was allowed. I’m sure the CCF fans are going wild

Not bad! BUT will there be turbos underneath?
By Roy Hobbson, February 5, 2010 @ 11:43 am
I’m going to exit the premises here while you all talk about stuff that I have no idea what you’re talking about.
But for the record, I LIKE THE MAROON ONE!! WHY? BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE A MUSCULAR TRACER BULLET!! PRETTY!!!

Damn. People are going to start wondering why I am sitting in my office in the dark with the door closed…

Wow!
Gian Paulo Dallara must have had an open day for the local school kids in Parma, it’s a shame he led the kids from the blind school into the design office.
These are like the ‘racing cars of the future’ as designed in 1972.

1. Bad.
2. Worse still.
3. Awful.
Holy cow, Dallara/IRL aspire to have “only” lost the plot. Back to the drawing board, boys. And try not to just re-skin the already eye-melting Dallara Indy car or raid the local Toys-R-Us for a design direction.

Still sayin, take that silly little afterthougt of a wing off #3 and you have a delta wing impersonator…
By DZ, February 5, 2010 @ 12:12 pm
I prefer the Yellow, sans side vents.
The Maroon one reminds me of the existing Dallara and despite how advanced it may be, represents the past.
The Red one reminds me of a ghastly thing Danny Ongais drove in 1981-82 although it does certainly maximize the surface area with which to put logos, etc.

Unfortunately, Indy Car long ago hit the technology wall. In the absence of higher banked turns and/or movable wings, there is no way to keep a car doing 230 mph+ on the track with any reasonable degree of safety and assurance that one can cover 250+ miles and finish in one piece. When was the last time a one lap and/or a 4 lap qualifying time set a new record? It’s not because we can’t get a car to do 250+ mph, we just can’t get one to stay on the track. Maybe Indy Car should have a loop de loop at all of the ovals. Now THAT’S excitement. It’d have Jack Arute pissing in his pants!
By Bickelmom, February 5, 2010 @ 12:39 pm
How about we install little rails on all the tracks to keep them attached to the track? It would also be really fun if the team had to pull the car backwards for 100 yards and then let it go.
I don’t understand all the stuff either, but I put the three pictures up on the wall and threw a dart and it landed on the maroon one.

YES!, YES!, and.. Well, 2 out of 3 aint bad. I agree with my internet wife Carrie, it is like porn. Those first 2 are the Ginger Lynn and Jenna Jameson of car designs and I’d be happy with either of them. Good job Dallara.

Old Yellar is kinda cool but I am ready for something a little more drastic than this. I think IndyCar needs something modern, with a nod to out-of-the-box innovation. I think it should be sensible to Indy history but bold, striking and identifiable as new and different. It should be something the auto industry can point to and learn and excite consumers. It should be something that appeals to youth and old fans alike. Oh and affordable for new teams…
Don’t get me wrong, these are sweet a** cars here, but I don’t think they do that. Will the Delta Wing?

The maroon car is very nice but many people are waiting for the Delta Wing.

This is all wonderful eye-candy, but for my money, the majority of real innovation should come from the propulsion portion of the equation, not with the already wrung-out aerodynamics/styling.
I’m not saying the innovations to the chassis aren’t important, just somewhere more like 30% important to innovative developments to the propulsion systems at 70% important.
I would be perfectly happy with one spec chassis 9as long as it’s not #3/red) if there were 3 different power plants available to be mated to it (maybe one bio-diesel, one 100% ethanol, one ????… dare I say it… hydrogen/electric?)

Yeesh… I hate ‘em all. But then again, I like old time rock ‘n roll, I’m proud of America’s heritage, heterosexuality, and beer – doesn’t seem like their target market anymore

I’m not sure I get where all of the hate is coming from on a couple of these cars. The red one looks an awful lot like a cross between the current Dallara and a mid-’90s Reynard.
http://www.race-cars.com/carsold/reynard/1075582919/1075582919le.htm
Isn’t that what a lot of people are clamoring for? A return of the mid-’90s?
And the yellow one looks like a cross between the current Dallara and the DP-01 (cooling exhausts, mainly), plus some bulbous-y sidepods. I thought everybody LOVED the DP-01. No?
I get the criticism of the red one. I don’t mind it, but it’s different enough that I see where people wouldn’t like it. Whatever. None of us (as far as I know) get a vote, so I just think they’re all fun to see.
By P Daddy, February 5, 2010 @ 5:13 pm
When are they coming out with the green and blue models? I like green and blue. I’m not really a fan of red and yellow. I’ll bet green is faster than red. Red just looks faster.
(Shut up Mom, I’ll be up in a minute)

Sheesh! I was hoping for something more like the ’46 Novi updated with a Toyota accelerator.

#3… sucks
By redd, February 7, 2010 @ 11:00 am
why does the silent pagoda logo have a spatula in it?
By Coz, February 8, 2010 @ 12:10 pm
C’mon Roy. There, there, now. Let it out. It’s OK, it’s just a football game. Let’s go visit Uncle AJ. Would that cheer ya up?

I realize the state of Indiana is probably upset today but on the Indycar front things are lookin good. Dallara, Lola, Swift and Delta wing all want a piece of the action. This is good news!
