The Easiest Do-Gooding You’ll Ever Do

Posted by Roy Hobbson on October 27th, 2009  •  14 Comments

It’s a troubling trend I’ve noticed of late: most charitable events make you do stuff. Unpleasant stuff, frankly. Like walk. Or worse yet, run. Or hang drywall. Or give blood. Or play 18 holes with the drunk guy who yells at you for missing a putt. Or bathe homeless people. That kind of nonsense.

This Wednesday evening, though, is different. If you’re in Indianapolis, come out to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse on North Keystone from 5-to-9 and endure no such physical hardships. For let us be clear on this: it’s a charity HAPPY HOUR!!!!!!!!! Which unless you’re Amish — or a recovering alcoholic – is the best of both worlds!!! Casually sip Manhattans with IndyCar folk while bettering the lives of kids on the Oncology Ward!!! Win win.

All proceeds from the evening go to Tatum’s Bags of Fun, the official charity of the Pagoda and the most noble of causes. And if that kind of handsome do-gooding doesn’t whet your wallet, there’s more. Because at 6:00 sharp, I’m arm-wrestling Arni Sribhen in a no-holds-bar battle for moral & psychological supremacy. And at 7:00, Brian Barnhart goes all John Candy in “The Great Outdoors” when he tackles the famed 96-oz. porterhouse. Will he finish it? Will he fall into a beef-seizure & die? Maybe!! WHO KNOWS??!? Come out to Ruth’s Chris and find out!!

(Seriously, what else are you doing on a Wednesday night? Watching “Family Guy” & not helping kids with cancer, I presume? For shame.)

Are we sure Arni looks like that? I could have sworn he looked more like Short Round from Temple of Doom.

Is this for real? I don’t see anything about it on the IndyCar webiste.

This is not an “official” IndyCar event, no. But frankly, the chance to drink Mai Tai’s w/ Arni comes along once every Haley’s Comet. Do not let it slip away.

If that’s not enough for you, more IndyCar folk MAY be scheduled to appear. You’ll be updated accordingly.

Wait, Hobbson, Arni AND Barnhardt all in the same room at once. And it’s FOR CHARITY?!?!? Consulting Orbitz now.

$1149 for the cheapest flight arriving in Indy tomorrow afternoon?!? Hmmm. This is going to take some sweet talking with the wife…

So it shall be. My liver will suffer so that cancer kids may smile. I’m in.

We want Lindy! We want Lindy! We want Lindy!

Oh yeah, like Tony Kanaan is going to show up to this…

  • By devmd01, October 27, 2009 @ 9:45 pm

DZ, if I were Tony Kanaan, I wouldn’t show up for anything unless it was real racing, since I own this beautiful piece of machinery: http://tinypic.com/r/103fmg2/4

DZ, you better be careful! Don’t f*#k with cancer kids! TK would be wise to show. My guess, he wins 3 races next year by making this one appearance.

I don’t think drinking FOR kids would violate my parole.

Man, does my liver ever want me to attend this. Since I can’t make it, can I just drink beer at home in an effort to help?

Maybe I’ll come so Jeff Iannucci can insult my wife again.

    *sighing*

Thank you so much to everyone who came out tonight. We raised a significant amount of money for a wonderful cause, and I’m fairly certain I bought a Bob Sanders jersey for $400. *facepalm* (Stupid silent auction.) We did good, though. Real good.

Good night, everyone, and drive home safely.
